Emotional Regulation for Wellbeing?

Your brain is constantly taking in and processing information from inside your body, your environment, and your relationships with others. Your nervous system transmits many signals and codes between the brain and the rest of the body. The nervous system is always assessing our environment and putting people, places, and things into one of two boxes safe or unsafe.

While your nervous system works efficiently to keep you safe, it is very much influenced by all your past experiences. Your nervous system may assess and determine there is danger, even if it is no longer physically present. I am often in clinic calling this your 'brave emotional charge'.

When the nervous system deems a situation safe, it tells our body to relax, it signals the heart to slow down and our digestion hums away happily, properly dispensing nutrients to our body. Having this regulated nervous system is essential to feeling stable, centred, healthy and being able to find your resilience for emotional well-being.

A dysregulated nervous system can present emotions such as:

🆘 despair
✴️ guilt
⚠️ defensiveness
❎ self-pity
🚹 blame
♒️ punishing behaviours
🔎 loneliness

And many more. These are all brave disconnections with yourself and are masks safeguarding you from emotional distress. Your nervous system holds a mask, an emotional charge, because it has an unmet need and it remains on alert vibrating and seeking the safe, not yet found solution.

In our kinesiology courses we are now sharing a nervous system balance technique you can share with your family and friends as a preventive measure to this type of nervous system overloading.

Moving emotional energy from this nervous system state can help to activate a deeper release of body tension. Liberating this emotional charge releases your need for hyper alert, reduces masking so you gain access to moments of attention for peace, calm and safety which is where your full capacity of mind and body has the awareness to process all thoughts and feelings as information.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is find that space to allow yourself to take off the mask, lay it down and let the emotional charge flow. Helps to do this with support and this is exactly what you will find in a Body Wisdom Consultation. https://www.bodywisdom.co.nz/kinesiology-consultations/.
